St. Thomé or Loanda coast
This name refers to the coast of Central Africa around São Tomé and Luanda (Angola). Luanda was the largest Portuguese depot for the slave trade on the African coast. In 1641 the WIC captured Luanda and the island of São Tomé to secure the supply of enslaved people to Dutch Brazil. Until 1648 the WIC ran the slave trade from Luanda. After that the Portuguese recaptured the area.
